Tom Cruise has paid tribute to the late actor, Val Kilmer.

Kilmer, who starred opposite Cruise as fighter pilot rival, Iceman in Top Gun, passed away aged 65 this week, from pneumonia. He had been previously diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014.

The actor, who earned critical acclaim for his role as singer Jim Morrison in the biopic, The Doors, also came back for the 2022 Top Gun sequel, Maverick, which was his final appearance on screen.

Tom Cruise paid tribute to Kilmer, while speaking to a crowd at the recent CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, before sharing new footage of his latest movie, Mission: Impossible.

"I'd like to honour a dear friend of mine, Val Kilmer," Cruise said beforehand. "I really can't tell you how much I admired his work, how much I thought of him as a human being, and how grateful and honoured I was when he joined Top Gun and then came back for Top Gun: Maverick".

Tom Cruise led the audience on a lengthy silence at Caesurs Palace casino, with the actor calling on the audience to "take a moment and just think about all the wonderful times that we had", as he watched Kilmer on screen.

"I wish you well on your next journey", Cruise said to Kilmer.

He also told those in attendance: "Thank you all for doing that. I know he appreciates it".

Along with Cruise, The Doors' guitarist John Densmore also paid tribute to Kilmer. More on this from Nova here.
