Hollywood actor Tom Hanks was spotted supporting his beloved Aston Villa in their final home game of the Premier League season last night.

The global superstar was in the box at Villa Park, and watched the home side come back from 3-1 down to secure a dramatic 3-3 draw against Liverpool, thanks to two late goals from sub Jon Duran.

Hanks who has starred in classic movies including Philadelphia, Sleepless in Seattle, and Forrest Gump, which saw him win an Oscar, decided on supporting the Birmingham club when he saw the name in a list of results and thought it sounded, "like a place you’d go on holiday in the summertime".

"I’m an adopted fan but I love the team as though they’re my own", Hanks had said previously.

Hanks Hopes For "Good news on the horizon"

Ahead of last night's match, a video which was also posted to Aston Villa's social media accounts shows Hanks saying: "Hello Birmingham, Tom Hanks here celebrating the penultimate match here in Villa Park. Looking forward to it".

He also added, "Good news on the horizon, let’s hope so. Up the Villa! Forever Villa".

The result means that Aston Villa need to win their final match of the season against Crystal Palace to secure a Champions League spot for next season.

Hanks' association with Aston Villa is among a long list of US celebrities with links to British soccer clubs.

Last month, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney rejoiced as their club Wrexham AFC secured their second promotion in two years, which will see them play in League 1 next season. Reynolds and McElhenney co-own the Welsh club.
