With American voters set to cast their ballots on November 5th, opposing candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump went head to head last night (Sept 10th) in their first official televised presidential debate.

What’s really catching people’s attention however, is Trump’s repetition of unfounded rumours that Haitian migrants were eating local pets in Springfield, Ohio. He proclaims: “They’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating the – they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

Even Trump’s former communications director Anthony Scaramucci said after the debate: “People saw an unhinged president Trump tonight. He went on to declare Kamala Harris “a great political athlete”… “She will win the race come November”.

Trump himself seems unphazed however, making an unplanned appearance at the post-debate forum, and assuring everyone: “It was my best debate ever, I think.”

Following his attempted assasination in July it was thought that support for Trump may strengthen, however following last night’s debate, things are uncertain. To further this uncertainty, country-pop singer Taylor Swift announced via Instagram that she planned to vote for Harris and urged her fans to do their research and vote in November.
