Two men have appeared in court charged with gun-related offences after an alleged incident in West Dublin.

A gun and ammunition were recovered by gardaí following the search of a vehicle in Clondalkin on Tuesday.

Shortly after 8 o’clock on Tuesday evening, Gardaí intercepted a vehicle on Rowlagh Avenue in Clondalkin.

Following a search of the vehicle, a semi-automatic Glock pistol along with a number of rounds of ammunition were discovered.

45-year-old Declan Coulahan of Drumcairn Parade, Tallaght and 35-year-old Michael Simpson of Rowlagh Avenue, Clondalkin appeared before Blanchardstown district court this morning, charged in connection with the investigation.

They were each charged with one count of possession of a firearm and one count of possession of ammunition.

The court heard both men made no reply to the charges.

No application for bail was made in either case, and the men were remanded in custody to appear before The Criminal Courts of Justice on Monday.

A decision regarding legal aid for both Mr. Coulahan and Mr. Simpson has been reserved, pending a statement of means from both.
