The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan will brief Cabinet ministers this afternoon on how Ireland is doing on the fight against coronavirus.
The two metre rule and the current level of restrictions in place are likely to be the focal points up for discussion.
Dr Holohan has said that the two metre guidance is not a hard and fast rule, he said his team thought it was a "reasonable compromise" given where we are currently at with the pandemic.
"It is not a rule, it is guidance. It has been described as if it is some hard and fast law that is there. So it is guidance and like any guidance it has to be interpreted by people at an individual level and then by organisations."
