U2 have announced that they are bringing their Joshua Tree anniversary tour to Dublin this year.
The band will hit the road this summer to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their Joshua Tree album. The tour will kick off in Vancouver in May, and then head to the US before coming to Dublin’s Croke Park on 22nd July.
The Dublin concert will bring the band back to the same venue which held the original Joshua Tree Tour concerts in 1987. Speaking of the news, Bono said “It’s going to be a great night in Dublin,” the frontman continued, “Croke Park is where the album was born 30 years ago”.
The Edge said “It seems like we have come full circle from when The Joshua Tree songs were originally written, with global upheaval, extreme right wing politics and some fundamental human rights at risk,” before adding, “To celebrate the album – as these songs seem so relevant and prescient of these times too – we decided to do these shows, it feels right for now. We’re looking forward to it.”
The Dublin band will be supported by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds during the European leg of the tour, which includes the band’s Dublin date. So far, only one date has been added for the band’s hometown, however it is expected that more will be added.
Tickets for the Dublin show will go on sale on Monday 16th January from Ticketmaster.
