Van Morrison has become the first musician to be named as "artist in residence" at Queen's University.
This collaboration will see Morrison provide fully funded scholarships for two aspiring students who want to become musicians. It will also see Morrison perform a string of live shows across his native Belfast.
Van Morrison had previously been awarded an honorary doctorate by the university in 2001, for his services to arts. He also received the Freedom of the City in 2013.
Describing this as a "wonderful" opportunity, Van Morrison also said: "I am delighted to deepen my relationship with Queen’s University Belfast and look forward to performing at a number of exclusive events throughout the year".
"This partnership is also a wonderful opportunity to inspire students, celebrate Belfast’s rich musical heritage, and give back by supporting the next generation of musicians".
On this partnership, Professor Ian Greer, Queen's University's President and vice-chancellor, also commented: "Dr Van Morrison is one of the most distinguished musicians of our time, and we are delighted to have him as our 'artist in residence’".
"This initiative will provide invaluable opportunities for our students and the wider community while enriching our cultural offerings", he added. "As a university, we are committed to providing access to quality education to all students and partnerships such as this are vital to making this happen".
This year also sees Queen's University mark its 180th anniversary, while Van Morrison also celebrates his 80th birthday.
This month will see Morrison perform three shows at Queen's Whitla Hall, as part of his residency, with students of the university receiving a discount for tickets.
Last June, Morrison also announced a new album, 'New Arrangements And Duets'. The album included big band tracks recorded in 2014, and previously unreleased material. More on this story from Nova here.
