Olivia Vedder has released her new track, My Father’s Daughter, which can be heard in Sean Penn’s movie. The new track from Eddie Vedder’s daughter is set to appear in the soundtrack for upcoming movie, Flag Day.
Led through heavy piano and a delicate performance, Vedder sings of potent familial bonds in this tender ballad. “They asked if I had seen you/But I’ve got no truck with men/Like them, they can go to hell/I am my father’s daughter/Come hell or high water.”
Accompanied by a music video featuring scenes from the film, the track is co-written by Eddie Vedder and Glen Hansard. My Father’s Daughter is one of two songs which Olivia sings on the upcoming Flag Day soundtrack. For the upcoming film’s soundtrack, Eddie and Hansard collaborated on eight new songs, while working with Cat Power on others.
In a statement, Penn said, “After this flood of gorgeous songs from Cat Power, Glen Hansard, and Eddie Vedder, we were just about to do a final mix on the film when Ed sent me Olivia singing ‘My Father’s Daughter.’ It became just the perfect cherry on top of the sundae.”
Sean Penn and his son, Dylan star in Flag Day alongside Hopper Jack Penn, Josh Brolin, Norbert Leo Butz, Dale Dickey, Eddie Marsan, Bailey Noble, and Katheryn Winnick. Both film and accompanying soundtrack are set to release on August 20th.
Eddie Vedder has shared his latest single, Long Way, giving fans the first taste of the Pearl Jam frontman’s upcoming solo album Earthling. Marking his first collaboration with 2021 Grammy winning producer, Andrew Watt, the album will release via Seattle Surf/Republic.
This new track sees Vedder channelling his inner Tom Petty over an arrangement inspired by 80s heartland rock theatrics. This video also includes fiery guitar solos and buzzing organs. While a release date has yet to be confirmed, Earthling can be pre-ordered here. You can buy a 7” vinyl featuring Long Way, and B-side track, The Haves.
