Queen Elizabeth celebrated her 92nd birthday on Saturday night, April 21st, with a performance from a number of musical acts at the Royal Albert Hall. Among the line up were Kylie Minogue, Tom Jones and performing together. Police frontman Sting and Mr lover lover, Shaggy.
The pair performed their reggae-infused single ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’ which appears on their album 44/876. The video is available for your viewing pleasure below.
The end of the show comprised of an ensemble performance of Louis Armstrong’s ‘What A Wonderful World’. According to the NME, the Queen's birthday bash finished in typical British style with the crowd chanting ‘hip-hip-hooray’. In a recent interview, Sting addressed the issue of cultural appropriation of music concerning the reggae influences on his new album with Shaggy. Sting spoke of his reverence for the genre,
“For me, reggae is something I respect and value, and take seriously. It’s something I’ve learned from. I owe a great deal to the whole reggae bass community. My spiritual, musical mentor was Bob Marley, who I knewmand I really feel that I’m doing something that feels authentic to me.'
