Aerosmith has confirmed they played their last ever live show, after frontman Steven Tyler failed to recover from his voice injury.
At the time not even the band knew that the gig, held in Elmont, New York’s UBS Arena, would be their final live performance.
The concert was part of their ‘Peace Out’ tour in 2023. After just three shows in early September the band had to reschedule the rest of the dates due to Tyler injuring his larynx.
The shows were set to start up again in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on the 20th of September but were finally cancelled after Tyler failed to recover from his injury in time.
The ‘Dream On’ stars took to social media on Friday (2nd of August) to announce the unfortunate news, saying they had “made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision” to bring their days of touring to an end.
“It is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible”
The post continued “As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible”
“Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”
“We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time.” The statement concluded, “Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”
All those who had purchased tickets have been offered refunds..
Aerosmith’s final performance opened with a video montage of all their best moments throughout history before diving into the song ‘Back in The Saddle’.
The iconic rock stars played all through the night with fan favourite classics like ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’,, ‘Livin’ On The Edge’, ‘Dream On’ and ‘Cryin’’.
The set ended with a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for Joe Perry who would turn 73 the day after.
