The multi Tony award-winning musical ANTYHING GOES will be playing at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre from the 18th of May the 28th of May 2022.
The musical stars award winning actor Simon Callow, who is most famous for his role in Four Weddings and a Funeral. Callow, who plays the iconic role of Elisha Whitney, also has an impressive film and TV career including some acclaimed and award winning films, such as Amadeus, A Room With A View (starring alongside Daniel Day-Lewis, Dame Judi Dench & Dame Maggie Smith), Shakespeare in Love, Victoria & Abdul (teaming up once again with Judi Dench).
Simon recently starred in the Disney/Marvel’s hit show Haweye and was one of the first actors to declare his homosexuality publicly, after the release of his book Being An Actor in 1984. He studied at Queen’s University Belfast and during his time there, Callow was very active in the Northern Ireland civil rights movement.
“Like everyone who saw Anything Goes last summer, I was swept away by it. The sheer joy of sharing its exuberance, wit and style with my fellow theatregoers – the perfect antidote to Covid and all its miseries. I couldn’t be happier to be joining the show as we spread the joy around the country,” says Callow.
Featuring a joyful, gold-plated score of theatre’s most memorable standards, including ‘I Get A Kick Out of You’, ‘You’re the Top’, ‘It’s De- Lovely!’ and Anything Goes, ANYTHING GOES is everything you want a big Broadway musical to be and more!
Kathleen Marshall’s previous production of ANYTHING GOES hit the high seas on Broadway as Winner of Best Revival and Best Choreography at the Tony Awards and Drama Desk Awards, and was nominated for nine Tony Awards and ten Drama Desk Awards, including Best Actress in a Musical and Best Director of a Musical. Now Marshall’s stunning new production is crossing the Atlantic and is set to be the summer musical you have been waiting for.
It was therefore no surprise that last year’s summer season of ANYTHING GOES saw audiences on their feet night after night, giving this multi–Tony Award winning show multiple standing ovations. This spectacular show has been described as the “musical equivalent of sipping one glass of champagne after another” (The Times) and “delightful, delicious, and as buoyant as helium” (Evening Standard).
