Fontaines D.C have released a music video for their new single ‘Bug’, starring actor Barry Keoghan.
Bug will feature on Fontaines D.C’s upcoming album, Romance, an album which has also see the band join forces with producer James Ford.
On the album, Fontaines D.C frontman Grian Chatten said: “The album is so theatrical, and fantastical, that it kind of reminds me of the Oscar Wilde Quote: ‘Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth”.
“Creating that fantasy world allowed me to feel more comfortable when expressing myself, vocally and lyrically”, he added.
“brilliant”
The video for Bug which you can check out below, was directed by Oscar winner Andrea Arnold, featuring exclusive, unseen footage from Arnold’s upcoming movie, Bird.
“I’ve loved the Fontaines since I first heard them,” Arnold said.
“Some music just sits in your bones like it always belonged, like you know it already, like it’s part of you. It’s why I asked to use ‘Too Real’ and ‘A Hero’s Death’ for my Bird film. Their music felt like it belonged there. In my world. They were immediately generous in letting me use those tracks which was just fucking brilliant. That generosity brought energy which gets poured into the life of the film”.
Fontaines D.C & “A Bug’s life”
Bird, which will be released on screens this Friday (November 8), will see Fontaines D.C’s guitarist Carlos O’Connell make his debut on the big screen.
It has also been reported that the band’s music is to heavily feature as part of the soundtrack.
On this, Carlos O’Connell also added: “‘Bug’s’ a song that happened quickly and convinced everyone quicker”.
“In my eyes, the character Bug, the tattoo “Bug’s Life”, Andrea’s essential & romantic worlds, and the line ‘Changed my name to “Promise you, Yea”’; when put all together make convincing needless & conviction undeniable. Big thanks to Andrea Arnold for letting us in so close to her visionary universe. She’ll be remembered how we remember Bacon or Goya”.
This weekend, Fontaines D.C will be heading over to the MTV Europe Music Awards, having been nominated the the Best Alternative category, alongside Hozier and others.
It also marks the band’s first EMA nomination. More on this from Nova here.
