Bruce Springteen led a long list of A list stars who gathered at the famous Carnegie Hall this week, to pay tribute to musician and poet Patti Smith.
The Boss performed at this special event, alongside R.E.M's Michael Stipe, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, as well as actor Johnny Depp, Yeah Yeah Yeah's Karen O. Other musicians who featured include Sharon Von Etten, Kim Gordon, Alison Mosshart, Matt Berninger, Courtney Barrett, as well as Rolling Stones' Steve Jordan, Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
The event, People Have The Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith, took place last Wednesday (March 26), with all proceeds going towards supports for youth music and writing education programs.
Bruce Springsteen had previously scribed Patti Smith's maiden Billboard chart number one, Because The Night in 1978. The track was recorded during the singer's studio sessions for his album, Darkness on the Edge of Town, which also featured contributions from Jimmy Lovine.
This is the the track that Springsteen appropriately chose to perform on stage at this tribute show. You can check that out below.
"Patti gave me this big hit, right here, that I'm about to sing," Springsteen said when introducing the song. "If I had sung this song, it would not have been a hit. It needed her voice, and her incredible lyrics. So Patti, I have to thank you dearly for our one big hit together".
Closing the show, Springsteen performed the track, People Have The Power, alongside Patti Smith, Michael Stipe, Johnny Depp and just about everyone who was involved in making this event possible.
Last month, Patti Smith announced a special 50th anniversary tour, celebrating her 1975 album, Horses. More on this from Nova here.
