Chris Martin chose to cover Paul Simon’s Graceland during a visit to BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.
The singer was on to promote Coldplay’s latest album A Head Full Of Dreams, and also performed Hymn For The Weekend during the appearance.
While discussing his choice of cover song, Martin spoke about his first time hearing Graceland. The musician said he was 10 years old and visiting his mother’s home county, Zimbabwe.
“I was trying to get the attention of another 10-year-old girl.”
He continued, “There was no texting in those days, but she was doing the Eighties equivalent of not texting me back and I remember this song playing and thinking ‘at least the music is awesome.'”
Meanwhile, Coldplay were in the news recently after paying tribute to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
The band had been due to play in Houston on the 25th of August but cancelled due to safety concerns. They penned a song for the city, and performed it for the first and only time on the Miami leg of the tour. You can watch the performance below.
