Pop superstar Dua Lipa has launched her Australian ‘Radical Optimism’ tour in Melbourne by wowing Rod Laver Arena with a cover of AC/DC's Highway to Hell.
The 29 year old British-born Albanian pop star put a twist on her usual repertoire, covering the Aussie rock anthem on the first of five sold-out shows in the city.
How does it compare to the original title track off AC/DC’s 1979 album?
Highway to Hell was frontman's Bon Scott's last album with AC/DC. He was discovered dead in the backseat of a mate's automobile. The rocker had died of acute alcohol poisoning, on Feb. 19th, 1980. He was replaced with lead singer Brian Johnson for Back in Black.
Dua's performance comes just a month's after Lady Gaga sang the classic song with Brian Johnson for a Carpool Karaoke Christmas special with Apple TV.
During the segment Gaga revealed she was a “headbanging” extra in an AC/DC video as a teenager. When Johnson first entered the car to join Gaga and Lowe, Gaga said, “You want to hear something funny? I was in the ‘Stiff Upper Lip’ video. I was 17 and I was an extra in the back and I was headbanging. And they were like, ‘Don’t headbang. We want it to be modern.’ And I was like, ‘No, I can’t. Like, there’s only one move that I can do.'”
