Koko the gorilla played bass with Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Flea over the weekend.
The 45 year old primate is notably one of the most talented of it’s kind, having mastered the art of sign language, giving bass a bash seemed like the next most logical move.
Koko previously gained the affection of the world when she demonstrated her inherent maternal urges by mothering two kittens.
Quite the socialite, Koko has met many other big names including the late Robin Williams. Flea described the occasion as “the greatest thing that could ever happen, this is the day that I will never forget in my life”.
The Gorilla Foundations official website for Koko, said Flea is “one of her favourite musicians” and was “thrilled by the mellow sounds and a jamming session”.
Flea urged others to help the gorilla conversation project, in a post on Instagram he said:
“You can help gorilla conservation at koko.org believe it or not people slaughter these incredible, intelligent, and benevolent animals for sport. They are headed towards extinction. Help if you can I beg humbly.”
The Foundation also suggested there may be some more “future collaborations” between the duo.
