As Metallica were about to barge into their encore ‘Seek & Destroy’ at their Amsterdam show just gone, they surprised their metal fans when they invited a young boy called Evan Adamson (13) to join them on stage.
Video footage recorded at the concert shows drummer Lars Ulrich leaving his station, his seat filled by the birthday boy who played the intro to Seek & Destroy’ with incredible skill.
According to the NME frontman James Hetfield told the Johan Cruyff Arena crowd “Oh god, Lars shrunk. They put Lars in the wash. Told them not to put him in the dryer”, as Ulrich gave Adamson some encouragement before he picked up the sticks.
Adamson later took to Instagram to write: “Well well well no words I mean to play drums in front of 68,000 people with my hero’s my favourite band of all time was just the best thing ever and to top it all off it was my bday.”
Happy 13th Birthday, Evan! 🎉 #MetInAmsterdam pic.twitter.com/P22PwkMlF9
