A new trailer for an upcoming documentary on Phil Collins, has been released.
The trailer which you can check out below, was released by Drumeo, an online drum education platform.
In the film, which is titled Drummer First, drummers Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy, can be heard paying tribute to Collins.
“Phil Collins’ drumming has such a unique sound and style that you know immediately when you hear it”, said Smith.
Portnoy commented: “He’s really criminally underrated as a prog icon”.
“one of my drumming heroes”
Speaking about the documentary, Drumeo content director Brandon Toews, hailed Collins as one of his “drumming heroes”.
“Over the last three years, I’ve been working with the Drumeo team on a documentary about Phil Collins – one of my drumming heroes”, he said.
Toews added: “I spent a few days in Switzerland with Phil and his son, Nic Collins, and we filmed a series of brand-new interviews shortly after Phil and Genesis officially retired”.
The most moving praise for Collins arguably comes from drum educator Dom Famularo, who said this.
“The fact that we’re living in the time of Phil Collins is almost equal to what it was like when people were living in the time of Mozart”, he stated.
Phil Collins also appears in the trailer, where he talks about his iconic drum fill on his classic hit, In The Air Tonight, as well as opening up about why he no longer plays the drums.
“If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks then I will have a crack at it,” said Collins. “I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles”.
Along with Smith and Portnoy, other musicians who featured on this trailer also include Leland Sklar, Matt Cameron, Tommy Aldridge, Todd Sucherman, Eloy Casagrande, Billy Cobham, Daryl Stuermer, Luis Conte, Brann Dailor, Simon Phillips, Jonathan Moffett, Jordan Rudess, Liberty DeVitto and Chad Wackerman.
Fans will able to access Drummer First on Drumeo’s official YouTube page from next Thursday (December 18).
