The Prince Estate, in partnership with YouTube, will host a three-day streaming event of Prince and the Revolution: Live, in Syracuse, NY from March 30, 1985.
Performing in lock-step with his incredible, tightly rehearsed band—which featured Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Dr. Fink, Mark Brown, Eric Leeds, and Bobby Z., along with a cast of special guests—the live concert in Syracuse included Purple Rain hits like “Let’s Go Crazy,” “When Doves Cry,” “I Would Die 4 U” and “Purple Rain” in addition to other early-career favorites like “1999,” “Little Red Corvette,” and “How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore.” (Full tracklist below.)
The streaming event will run from midnight IRISH TIME May 14, 2020, in support of the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization,
Any viewer donations will include a matching component from Google who will match $2 for every $1 donated up to 5 million!
An hour before the gig fans will also have the opportunity to participate in a special pre-stream Q&A with Revolution drummer Bobby Z.
The concert was originally released in 1985 on VHS and LaserDisc, followed by a DVD release included with the 2017 Purple Rain Remastered & Deluxe Edition. The audio from the concert has been remastered by longtime Prince mastering engineer Bernie Grundman, and will be available officially in digital format for the first time across all streaming and download partners on Friday, 15 May.
