On Saturday, Pulp performed their new single, 'Spike Island' on their recent appearance on the Jonathan Ross Show. You can watch footage of this below.
The band treated fans to a live rendition of this track, which is taken from their upcoming album, 'More', arriving on June 6. Their first record in 24 years. The album is produced by James Ford, as well as being recorded and mixed at Orbb Studio in Walthamstow E17. More on this here.
Ahead of this performance, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker spoke to Jonathan about his recent wedding, eccentric fashion sense, as well as the new album of course.
“I proposed in a traffic jam. We’d been to Mexico. I thought about it a lot there, but something stopped me", Cocker explained. “We were in a traffic jam near Shepherd’s Bush and the conversation stopped and I thought, ‘I’ll do it now’. When the muse speaks to you, you have to answer".
Speaking about his fashion sense, Jarvis Cocker said that it began with him buying clothes for himself, adding that he's "experiment" with 10p bin bags full of clothes from jumble sales.
“Sometimes it would fail, but you try things. It would be like people’s reaction, if people laughed as I walked past, I’d think, ‘I won’t wear that again’. I evolved through that", he said.
On Pulp's new album, Cocker explained that the band “just decided to see how many songs we could write and ended up with a record”.
