WICKED, the spectacular, multi-record-breaking, and critically acclaimed touring production of the must-see musical phenomenon returns to Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for a third engagement, following sold-out visits in 2013 and 2018.

Starring Irish West End actor Sarah O’Connor as ‘Glinda’, WICKED plays from Tuesday 23 July to Saturday 14 September 2024.

Born in Lucan, Sarah attended Dublin’s Westside Performing Arts and was a finalist in the RTÉ talent show Fame: The Musical before making her West End debut in Mamma Mia! in 2011. Sarah has gone on to star in a host of other West End shows including Les Misérables; ‘Imelda Quirke’ in the original cast of The Commitments; ‘Perón’s Mistress’ in EvitaWaitress; Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol and, most recently, Disney’s Frozen.

In WICKED Sarah joins west End stars Laura Pick (Elphaba), Carl Man (Fiyero), and Simeon Truby (The Wizard and Doctor Dillamond) together with Donna Berlin (Madame Morrible), Jed Berry (Boq), Megan Gardiner (Nessarose), and Casey Al-Shaqsy (Standby for Elphaba).

It’s hard to express how thrilling it is to finally come home to Dublin and play Glinda – an iconic role in one of the best musicals ever written – at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. It’s so exciting to get to perform in my hometown, for Irish audiences, in a role that has been a dream of mine for years,” Sarah says.

It is based on the multimillion-copy best-selling novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’ by Gregory Maguire, Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s WICKED imagines a beguiling backstory and future possibilities to the lives of L. Frank Baum’s beloved characters from ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ and reveals the decisions and events that shape the destinies of two unlikely university friends on their journey to becoming Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The West End and Broadway musical, that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, continues an open-ended run at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre where it is now flying into its landmark 18th year.

WICKED Executive Producer Michael McCabe says, “As we prepare for a much anticipated third visit to Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, we’re delighted to announce a truly stellar cast of 33, led by Laura Pick and Sarah O’Connor as Elphaba and Glinda, who form part of the 100+ company that will be delivering all the spectacle and magic of this gigantic production on stage and behind the scenes.”

WICKED has now been seen by 65 million people worldwide, and 2023 marks the 20th Anniversary of its Broadway premiere. Productions continue on Broadway, in the West End, and on tour across North America.

This year, WICKED also returns to Sydney, Australia and Tokyo, Japan. The two-part Universal Pictures film version of Wicked, directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, is in production.

WICKED has won over 100 awards including three Tony Awards; six Drama Desk Awards; two Olivier Awards; eleven WhatsOnStage Awards; six Australian Helpmann Awards, and a Grammy. The musical features songs by multi-Oscar and Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, The Prince of Egypt, Disney’s Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Enchanted).
