An investigation is underway after Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police in LA, before being taken in for attempted murder, it has been confirmed.

It was reported that Mrs Shriner, who is an author, was involved in a shootout with police which followed an unrelated car chase incident.

This happened after police responded to calls for assistance following a hit-and-run involving three suspects, who fled to a residential neighbourhood. One suspect was seen running into a private residence.

However, before police could apprehend the suspect, they spotted a woman in a neighbouring yard, holding a handgun, which the LAPD have claimed was pointed at them by this woman, who was later identified as Jillian Shriner. She had fled her home.

Shriner was later taken into custody for a "non-life threatening gunshot wound". It was also confirmed that neither the officers involved in the shootout or nearby residences were injured.

“After repeated commands to drop the weapon were ignored, an OIS [officer-involved shooting] occurred", a statement said. “The woman, later confirmed to be a resident, was struck by gunfire & taken to the hospital for treatment".

A statement said that police later found a nine-millimetre handgun at Shriner's residence, while adding that Shriner herself was not involved in the hit-and-run. She was later absentee booked for attempted murder, and the incident is currently being investigated.

Shriner's representatives have yet to comment.
