An 83 year old woman has died after a house fire in Longford.

Gardai in Granard are investigating the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Gardai were called to the scene of the fire at a house in Camagh near Abbeylara just after 7 o clock yesterday evening

After the blaze was brought under control by units of the Castlepollard and Granard Fire Brigades, the body of an 83 year old woman was recovered from the house.

Her body has been removed from the scene, which has been sealed off.

A post mortem examination is due to take place at Mullingar Hospital.

Gardai suspect no foul play as of yet, and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.
