Met Eireann says that the worst of the snowfall will take place from 4pm tomorrow and that people should aim to be at home between that time and midday on Friday.
Schools and colleges in Leinster and Munster will be closed tomorrow and Friday due to the red weather alert for snow and ice.
Dublin Bus will not operate tomorrow and neither will Bus Eireann services in Leinster and Munster.
Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy attended the National Emergency Coordination group meeting earlier.
Meanwhile,
An Post says all Letter and Parcel services for Dublin, Louth Wicklow, Kildare, and Meath have been suspended.
Mail collection and delivery services will be continued in other parts of the country.
It says it will monitor conditions for the rest of the day and overnight.
