American musician Kid Rock asked Irish journalist Caitríona Perry out live on air during a bizarre interview on the BBC's coverage of Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday.

Perry, who was reporting live from Washington DC prior to the inauguration ceremony, conducted a live interview with Kid Rock, a known Trump supporter who was set to perform during the ceremony.

Kid Rock, real name Robert James Ritchie, stopped halfway through the interview to ask the journalist what she was doing and “where you at?”

“I’m standing on a rooftop in these very very chilly conditions, I will be on air for 11 or 12 hours." Perry responded.

The 54-year-old singer persisted, complaining that he couldn't see Ms Perry on his screen, asking what she looked like.

Perry joked back saying, “I look like I’m ready to hit the slopes. I’m in full-on ski gear here with my hat, gloves, the whole thing. Ready to rock, because you’ve got to be wrapped up against the elements don’t you.”

To which Kid Rock replied “I love to go skiing, you sound sexy, you want to go with me?”

An awkward moment of silence passed before Perry quickly wrapped up the interview saying, “Well, we won’t get into that right here. We’re doing no skiing today, we’ve got a day of broadcasting to do."

This is not the only time that Catríona Perry has had to deal with inappropriate comments while doing her job.

In 2017, a clip went viral of US President Donald Trump singling out the journalist while on the phone to Leo Varadkar, the then Taoiseach of Ireland. Trump called Perry up in front of everyone, asking her name and saying she had “a nice smile on her face.”

“I bet she treats you well,” he added.

Perry later spoke about the incident with Mr Trump on 'The Late Late Show', calling it an "eyeroll moment".

Catríona Perry made the move from RTÉ to the BBC in 2023, where she was named the station's chief reporter in Washington DC. She had previously worked for RTÉ for 16 years as their Washington Correspondent and eventual presenter of the Six One News.
