Radio Nova will join dozens of radio station across Europe on Friday morning simultaneously playing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” in a show of unity against the Coronavirus pandemic.
NPO 3FM presenter Sander Hoogendoorn had the idea to bring all radio stations in the Netherlands together during the Covid-19 crisis but now stations in countries across Europe including Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, Latvia, Slovakia, Romania and Spain will be taking part and playing the Liverpudlian band’s song at 8.45am in the Netherlands, which will be 7.45am in Ireland.
“We all have to do what we can to beat this crisis. Things like this just go beyond the boundaries of radio channels. [The song] could speak to those doing an incredible job working in healthcare right now, those who are ill or those who can’t leave their house for a while,” Sander says.

The song, by Liverpool band Gerry and the Pacemakers, is synonymous with Liverpool FC and other football clubs around the world. The original tune was written for a musical titled ‘Carousel’, which was released in the USA in 1945.
BBC Radio 1 and 2 have confirmed they are taking part in the initiative which is led by Colm Hayes & Lucy Kennedy on Radio Nova.
