Six in ten people believe youth mental health in Ireland has deteriorated over the past five years

They are the results of a new RED C poll, with anxiety and depression on the rise.

The survey, commissioned by youth mental health organisation Spunout, highlights a range of contributing factors.

Social media and cyberbullying were identified as major issues, while 49% blamed the housing crisis and 47% pointed to the lingering effects of the pandemic.

Other concerns include body image pressures, substance abuse, and a lack of physical activity.

Academic stress, particularly the Leaving Cert, and poor sleep were named by over a third of respondents, with one in five citing pressure from parents.

The findings underscore growing public concern about the challenges facing younger generations and the urgent need for solutions to address these mental health struggles.
